Founder and principal at The James Collective, an integrated marketing communications and PR firm that works in food, beverage and travel. www.thejamescollective.com
My first job in food was:
At a wine PR agency in NYC
What brought me to San Francisco:
I've been bicoastal with NYC for quite some time. A combination of business, friends and love brought me here--and the great access to hiking doesn't hurt in keeping me.
My one-year goal:
Cementing my company's presence in the industry with offices in both NYC and the Bay Area.
My five-year dream:
Having a badass bicoastal team leading the food, beverage and travel clients on both coasts, enabling me to expand into different local, community driven businesses.
My mentor, and the most important lesson I learned from him or her:
One of my mentors is a wonderful SF entrepreneur who taught me to hire early and invest in people first and foremost. But my mother, whom is my life's driving mentor, taught me my most important lesson (and hammered it home over and over again): "take healthy risks and be nice to people."
The person I'd most like to collaborate with, and the project:
Anything with Sweetgreen!
What I can teach other people in this group:
How integrated marketing and PR can be done effectively, authentically and without a ton of resources. The value of taking time for one's self, even when building a business.
My favorite thing to cook:
An old school, chicken a l'orange (my mom's recipe, naturally).
Champagne always. Manhattans in the winter, a spritz in the summer.
How I relax:
I am proof that you can own a business and live a happy, balanced life. You truly can manifest that which you set your mind to.
